ABSTRACT:
In today’s English language classrooms, teachers often find themselves caught between two worlds: the reliability of “old-school” teaching practices and the ever-expanding universe of educational technology. But do we really have to choose between the Flintstones and the Jetsons? This interactive workshop explores how motivation can be sustained and enhanced by balancing traditional, human-centred classroom practices with purposeful and meaningful use of technology. Drawing on motivational theory, classroom research, and practical teaching experience, participants will examine what truly motivates learners in the post-pandemic, AI-influenced era of ELT. Through hands-on activities, discussion tasks, and ready-to-use classroom ideas, teachers will reflect on their own teaching beliefs, identify motivational “sweet spots,” and design lessons that combine low-tech, high-impact activities with digital tools—without overwhelming learners or teachers. The session aims to reassure, inspire, and empower teachers to create engaging, motivating learning environments where pedagogy leads technology, not the other way around.
