Session abstract:
In today’s classrooms, evidence of learning goes beyond academic achievements—it includes the development of social-emotional skills that empower students to succeed. In this session, the emphasis is on useful strategies for monitoring, recording, and fostering students' social-emotional growth in addition to their academic advancement. Participants will explore tools like observation checklists, reflective journals, and collaborative activities to gain insights into students’ SEL growth. Additionally, the session will also address how to incorporate SEL into formative assessment, making these competencies visible and actionable. By the end of the session, educators will leave with practical tools and techniques to foster holistic development through hands-on activities, ensuring students succeed academically and emotionally.
Biodata:
Beril Ayman Yücel has dedicated 34 years to English Language Teaching, serving as an instructor, teacher trainer, textbook writer, and administrator. She holds a B.A. in ELT and an MSc in Educational Sciences from METU. Over the span of 26 years, she contributed significantly at the university level. She also served as the Foreign Languages Director at the Turkish Education Association (TED) Headquarters. . Currently, she works as a freelance ELT Consultant and Trainer. She is one of the founding members of the Board of Directors of TESOL Türkiye (İngiliz Dili Öğretimi ve Mesleki Gelişim Derneği) and now is the joint coordinator of TESOL Türkiye Teacher Education and Development Special Interest Group With extensive experience in teacher training and trainer training, Beril has actively participated in numerous professional development projects both nationally and internationally. She presented at many conferences and published articles and chapters of books. She is a life-long learner.
